Fake Celebrity Gossip

June 24, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Celebrity gossip used to be my outlet…I visited people.com, perezhilton.com, tmz.com, and eonline.com multiple times each day.  I subscribed to US Weekly and always bought at least one Star, People or OK! at the grocery store every week.

Now, I go days without even thinking about checking out celebrity gossip.  Gabby and I were talking about this the other day, and I think there are two main reasons for both of us separating ourselves from the celebrity gossip bandwagon.

First, the majority of the tabloid news is about fake celebrities.  I do not care about Spencer, Heidi, some mother that has 14 kids, John and Kate, and every other non-celebrity out there who has somehow been making headlines.  Stephanie Pratt on last week’s cover of US Weekly?  Serisouly?  COME ON.

Yes, I do watch a few of the shows that these fake celebs spawn from…but believe me, I get enough details about their lives through TV.  Mentions about them in tabloids would be ok, but lately they are the cover, the focus, and the entire story.

And apparently there are a lot of people interested in these fake celebrities.  More than 10 million people watched John and Kate announce their divorce that everyone already knew was happening.  But does that story then have to consume all other celebrity gossip?  Aren’t the real celebs out there doing anything?  Don’t they have things to promote?

And second, I think it’s the gossip outlets fault.  They will do absolutely anything for a headline.  They’ll draw the Ben-Jen-Angelina triangle out every way they can think of…three times each.  They will claim anything to sell a few magazines  – how many times has Jennifer Aniston been pregnant so far?

It’s hard to beleive the magazines when they try to say something – one because they’re track record isn’t great, and another because the celebrities (fake and real) think they can fool us and issue statements denying true reports.  Everyone from Madonna to those John and Kate people are guilty of this.

So where does that leave celebrity gossip fans?  On Gabby’s tip, I now rely on Page 6 for “real” celebrity gossip.  They don’t usually mess around with those annoying fakes.  She reads the superficial.com because the writer is hilarious…I do need to check him out more bc it’s true regardless if he’s commenting on a real or fake celebrity.

The one site I have banned and refuse to even ever consider? Perez Hilton.  That man is disgusting.  He draws semen and penises on people and then expects to be treated like a respected human being.  He wants equality for him and the LGBT community, but doesn’t believe in true equality because no one is allowed to disagree with him on anything ever.  He doesn’t only gossip, he is mean and ruthless, and it’s really uncalled for.  He targets everyone – including babies. Frankly, I’m surprised he hasn’t been hit before.  Maybe he should hire an outstanding security team.

But back to my main point, if celebrity tabloids want to get me back as a fan and reader, they need to make some changes.

I Heart Britney

December 2, 2008 · 1 Comment

My boss and I just watched Britney on GMA. (Thank goodness for her three tv’s in her office!) It was a good, solid performance. Definitely not her best, but she has reprieved herself from the disasterous Gimme More fiasco at the VMAs last year.

And, her concert dates were announced…she’s coming to Pittsburgh Friday, March 27! I can not wait!

Going to to buy her album now….

UPDATE:  Just watched Womanizer performance…and it wasn’t great at all.  She just kinda walked around instead of dancing.  That song needs some work before she hits the road.  I want to see her having more fun, too.

Still, all in all, I’m glad the Britster is doing better!

Tori Spelling to write another book!

July 21, 2008 · Leave a Comment

As a new Tori Spelling fan, I’m excited that she’s following up sTORI Telling with another memoir! Supposedly it will be about motherhood, and if she writes it in the same conversational, fun and witty style of her first book, it should be pretty entertaining. I just hope there are pictures again!!

My obsession with Chelsea Handler continues

July 18, 2008 · 2 Comments

Because I loved Are you there vodka? It’s me Chelsea so much, I ordered her first book, My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One Night Stands.

And once again, I wish Chelsea Handler was my friend. She’s hysterical and seems like she would be so much fun to hang out with….there’d never be a dull moment, that’s for sure!

This book is very easy to read, funny and you just want to keep reading more. She did a really good job pulling it all together at the end, too.

My favorite parts were Simone’s wedding, her cruise with Dumb Dumb and the Valentine’s Day costume party. I wish she was coming to Pittsburgh again.

I might be a Tori Spelling fan

July 11, 2008 · 3 Comments

I almost can’t believe I just admitted that.

I loved Beverly Hills 90210. Thanks to SOAPnet, Kelly, Dylan, Steve, David, Donna and the rest of the gang are still a part of my life. It’s not that I ever had an absolute favorite character – I did love Brenda though – but I never liked Donna Martin much – or Tori Spelling, for that matter.

Her character was obnoxiously goody goody, and there was something unbelievable about the way Tori played her. I guess I chalked it up to bad acting and her only getting the job because it was Daddy’s show.

Anyway, I knew about her life thanks to the tabloids and formed my own opinions. Who has a million dollar wedding and then cheats on her husband a a few months later only to divorce him and then marry the other guy – who was also married a the time?!

A few months ago, it was Ang’s turn to choose a book for book club, and she picked sTORI Telling – Tori Spelling’s new memoir. I pre-ordered it from Amazon and had it delivered to work. I read the first three chapters right away (please don’t tell my boss!). It was such an easy read – and very, very funny. The writing style was almost conversational – but not annoyingly so. It was witty. It was honest. And, I couldn’t put it down.

Did I also mention that there were photos? It was basically like an issue of US Weekly, but longer, more focused, and better written. I had a new respect for Tori…just because she was born rich, didn’t mean that things have always been easy for her. She’s made her share of mistakes, but she’s not afraid to laugh at herself.

Yesterday at work, Nora asked me if I’ve seen Tori & Dean Move to Hollywood or whatever their new show on Oxygen is called. I told her that I had it set to record (thank god for DVRs) but hadn’t watched it yet. Last night was kind of a slow night TV-wise, so I decided to check it out.

It was actually entertaining. The one I saw was when they’re starting to look at houses, and Dean dragged a very pregnant and seasick Tori on a scuba diving adventure. First of all, that scuba diving chick that was all flirty with Dean was no Adrianne Curry. She was ugly and really immature. Ugh, she annoyed me. And Second, their baby Liam may be one of the cutest babies ever….I just wanted to squeeze him…he seems so happy, and Tori seems like a good mom.

This is the first time I’ve ever really “seen” Dean as himself, and I wasn’t that impressed. He tries to act much younger than he is and comes across as a bit dorky. But, since my first impressions clearly aren’t always dead on since I’m a new Tori Spelling fan, I’ll give him a little more time.

Vacation Time

July 2, 2008 · 1 Comment

At this time tomorrow, I will be on a flight to Naples, Florida. I can hardly wait! I have so much to do between now and then….getting some work stuff finished, running some errands, most importantly to Sephora, and driving Bruin out to my sister’s so she can watch him.

Naples for the 4th (and my birthday) is going to be so much fun. Gabby and her husband will be there, along with her parents, my boyfriend’s family and friends of Gabby. This will be my third trip to Naples this year so far – fourth overall to Florida – I love the real sun, beaches and great shopping. Oh, and the amazing restaurants. So far, my favorite is Chops – best filet maybe ever!

I also hope the smell of smoke clears out of our house before we leave. Last night at 1030 pm, the boyfriend decided to make three pizza rolls. He stuck them in the microwave, accidentally turned it on for 10 minutes and went upstairs. I was on the computer and smelled smoke and screamed – the whole house filled with this awful smelling smoke. We opened all of the windows and lit candles, but I could still smell it this morning.

Right now, it looks like Angelina Jolie will be popping out her twins soon. First, the husband-stealing Jolie steals my name and now she’s trying to steal my birthday weekend thunder?! Whatever!

Nothing will ruin this vacation…I am so excited. Happy 4th of July!

My Book Club

July 1, 2008 · 1 Comment

Last night was book club night.  They are always pretty fun, and this one definitely didn’t disappoint.  This month’s book was Are You There Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea…if you need about a hundred good laughs, go out and buy this book right now!  My favorite chapter was Prison Break.

There were only four of us there last night.  Pammie, Ang, Gabs and myself.  We spent most of the time last night discussing Gabby’s awful new sister in law, piecing together the events from Saturday’s girls night out and figuring out how we can get Chelsea Handler to be our friend.

We meet at the Library on Carson Street.  It’s a really fun little bar and restaurant.  The food is great, and the wine is even better – although we were all taking it easy last night and ordered diet cokes!

Next month’s book, chosen by Gabby, is Skeletons at the Feast by Chris Bohjalian…I’m going to pick it up before vacation Thursday…it sounds like it will be great!  Hopefully more of our book clubbers will be able to make it.  We’ve only been doing this since January, and I’m really glad we started it.  Not only does it get me to read things I might not otherwise pick up, but I know I’m going to see good friends once a month….and with our busy lives and schedules, that definitely helps.

Apparently, girls don’t like sports?

June 26, 2008 · 3 Comments

I am so glad I didn’t watch Jeopardy! last night. It seems that Alex Trebek still lives in the dark ages and thinks that girls like to sit around and sew or bake stuff. My new work friend Nora was watching though and decided to send an email to Jeopardy’s production staff. I love voicing your opinion at times like these, so I thought I’d post her’s:

To the Production Staff of Jeopardy:

Last night I was enjoying another episode of Jeopardy until the Final
Jeopardy category. When “Heisman Trophy” popped up on the screen,
host Alex Trebek had the ignorance to make a remark implying that both
of the evening’s female contestants grimaced at the idea of a
sports-related question.

I tried to convince myself to let this comment pass as a presumptuous
and uncalled for slip-up, but when Alex returned from commercial
break, he nearly apologized, saying this category may have been
“unfair” for the women. I absolutely cannot imagine the studio
embracing these implied values. Now, I’m not a feminist by any means,
but I don’t see how society can progress from these subservient
mindsets if they’re all over our media. And the man has a daughter.
No wonder the country’s first female presidential contender had a
rough time.

I hope these ill-bred comments will force the studio to evaluate the
messages they are sending to the public.

Chelsea Handler…Will you be my friend?

June 23, 2008 · 2 Comments

I started reading Are You There Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea last night. I’m only halfway through it, and it’s amazing. She is one of the funniest people ever. It would be so much fun to hang out with this girl…specifically getting drunk, making fun of people and prank calling!  I think she’d absolutely love my friends, too.

If you haven’t read this book yet, go directly to the bookstore…you will not be disappointed!
